A Distance Course for Lyceans (and "programmers of a younger age") ») supervised by the RobotsMali
Introduction
Learn Python is a basic training in Python, the most widely used programming language in the world, for high school students and young programming enthusiasts. Like any RobotsMali program, the course will be fun and educational. To learn well, you must first love! There is not much prior knowledge required – but it does not mean it is for the losers. The course will require a lot of reflection and will gain a solid skill in Python.
- Duration of training: 15 weeks, from Friday 21 August 2020
- Work time required: 6 hours per week.
- Cost of training: Free.
Conditions
This course is a distance course. The student must have a computer at home, a connection and be able to work independently. The computer must be able to store and run the Python environment. The computer must have 2 GB of RAM or more and 3 GB or more free space on the hard disk.
We will distribute the lessons and manage the class by WhatsApp groups. We will try to reduce the amount of data to download, and therefore the cost of consumption. We estimate that you can handle a 20 MB per 100f package each week.
Downloading the Python environment and its installation must be done before you can start the course. Since the installation file is large, we suggest you come to the RobotsMali Centre to prepare everything. But, if you are brave enough you can try the experience yourself. You will need 500 MB of package for download and a 4G or fiber optic connection. Instructions for installing Python will be sent to you once the software is installed.
In order to ensure our ability to properly frame the course, the number of enrolments is limited and selection may be required. So, we ask each candidate to fill in a registration form short that will give you the opportunity to express your motivations.
Certificates
Any student who has completed all the training and completed all the homework and projects will receive a certificate. On each certificate, the good performances will be rewarded with mentions: fairly well, well, very well, and for the exceptional results, the designation "Master Programmer".
Unfortunately, it is well known, plagiarism is a real scourge in Mali. Even if the training offers you only a solid knowledge and a certificate, any student who resorts to plagiarism will be expelled and he or she will lose his or her right to a certificate.
Conduct
Every Friday a lesson (with homework and projects) in the form of a "Jupyter Notebook" will be broadcast on the course's WhatsApp group. The student will have a week to complete the assignment and projects. The completed "Jupyter Notebook" will be deposited by each student on another dedicated WhatsApp group. Throughout the week, RobotsMali's trainers will host a WhatsApp forum to answer students' questions and deepen their knowledge of the topics covered by the lesson.
Team
Sébastien Diarra de RobotsMali designed several of the lessons.
Stuart Culshaw and his organization TechWriters Without Borders helped prepare the lessons.
